Right after Christmas, Warlord Games posted an offer through an email, and on their website, for a new round of what they call their “Mystery Boxes”. These are offers to their customers to order from them, sight unseen, heavily discounted models. For US customers, the price was $160 plus a 10% tariff fee, but free shipping from the UK. I wanted to expand my collection of their ‘Epic’ scale figures, and though I was really only interested in their Napoleonic and Pike and Shot eras, I figured for the price, I couldn’t really go wrong. Chances were that I’d end up with their Hail Caesar, American Civil War, or American Revolution figures, but there’s always eBay if that was the case.
So, near the end of December, I decided to pull the lever, and go for it. I knew it was going to be a wait, at least until February. As January dragged on, I kept wondering what I was going to end up with. I hadn’t really considered ancient Rome, but if that is what I ended up with, I thought that I might try it out.
In the end, this week my ordered arrived, and with great anticipation I opened up the box. To my surprise, it contained the following:

A complete (well, really, are they ever?) British Army for Epic Napoleonic Black Powder. I have a bunch of Prussians, and some French, so this didn’t duplicate anything that I already owned, so that was a good start!
The question of exactly WHEN I was going to actually get around to painting them stayed out of my head. After all, look at all of those lovely boxes of plastic!
So now it’s down to fitting them into my crowded painting schedule! If I was to guess, they’ll fit in the queue sometime after I get my relatively small set of French forces done. As for an actual date, who knows. It’ll be surprising if it is during 2026.
