Oh! It's like an addiction!

Battle for the Narva Ithsmus, July 1944

I threw together this Flames of War game at nearly the last minute, so I had to work with the models that I already own and have painted. It represents a portion of the Soviet attacks over the Narva River that Summer, with the Axis forces all being foreign SS formations, in particular the Estonian Legion, as well as Norwegian, Dutch, and other nationalities.

Soviet Rifle Regiment prepares to assault the Tannenburg Line with T-34 Company in support.

Two T-34/85mm and three T-34/76mm tanks comprise the small company.

On the Soviet right flank, a much larger of force of T-34s advanced.

T-34s advance on the very far right against entrenched SS formations.

A STUG platoon and a reserve infantry platoon provide a back-up force for the platoons defending the front hill.

SS troops armed with machine guns, panzerfausts, and panzerschrecks defend the works at the top of the hill.

A pair of T-34s are lost to direct fire as the Soviet troops advance under artillery fire toward the SS positions.

SS Defense in depth with STUGs, mortars, and 88mm Flak guns deployed on their side of the battlefield.

After sustaining heavy casualties, the Soviets manage to drive the SS out of the fortifications, actually having to assault and kill most of them.

Soviet tanks get behind the hill as a Marder platoon and some Panzergrenadier platoons show up to support the STUG platoon.

With the addition of the STUG platoon to the SS left flank, the last few defenders are a hard nut to crack!

The SS retained a portion of the front defensive line, and drove back attempts by the Soviets to penetrate of both flanks through the woods. While technically a draw, the Soviet attacking force was in disarray, and would likely need to regroup/reinforce their positions before they would be able to drive any further.
